Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
Last Updated: December 31, 2025
This page explains your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), regarding the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information.
What “Sale” and “Sharing” Mean Under California Law
Under the CCPA/CPRA, a “sale” of personal information occurs when a business discloses personal information to a third party for monetary or other valuable consideration.
“Sharing” means disclosing personal information to a third party for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes, regardless of whether money is exchanged.
These definitions are broader than traditional sales. When we allow advertising platforms to collect data from our website for their advertising purposes, this may constitute a “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information under California law, even though we do not directly sell your data or receive payment for it.
What Data We Share That May Constitute a “Sale”
StarUp uses advertising pixels from Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and TikTok to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns. When these pixels are active, the following data may be shared with these platforms:
Data Shared with Meta (Facebook/Instagram)
| Data Type | Details |
|---|---|
| IP Address | Your full IP address is transmitted to Meta's servers |
| Device Information | Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, device type |
| Browser Fingerprinting Data | Installed plugins, viewport dimensions, color depth, WebGL renderer |
| Browsing Activity | Pages visited on our site, time spent, actions taken |
| Cookie Identifiers | Unique identifiers that track your activity across websites |
| Referral Information | How you arrived at our website |
How Meta Uses This Data:
- Cross-site tracking across websites using Meta Pixel
- Matching your activity with your Facebook/Instagram profile
- Building custom and lookalike advertising audiences
- Optimizing ad delivery and bidding
- Retargeting you with ads on Facebook, Instagram, and the Meta Audience Network
Data Shared with TikTok
| Data Type | Details |
|---|---|
| IP Address | Your full IP address is transmitted to TikTok's servers |
| Device Information | Browser type, operating system, screen resolution, timezone |
| Extensive Fingerprinting Data | Canvas fingerprint, WebGL fingerprint, audio context fingerprint, fonts |
| Browsing Activity | Pages visited, navigation patterns, session information |
| Cookie Identifiers | TikTok tracking identifiers |
How TikTok Uses This Data:
- Cross-site conversion attribution
- Building retargeting audiences
- Creating lookalike audiences
- Training ad recommendation algorithms
- Optimizing ad delivery
Important Notice: TikTok data may be processed by ByteDance, including in locations outside the United States.
What Data Is NOT Considered a Sale
Google Analytics 4
We also use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) for website analytics. This is NOT considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information because:
- GA4 anonymizes IP addresses by default - your full IP address is not stored
- GA4 does not share data with advertising networks in our configuration
- GA4 does not enable cross-site tracking by default
- Data is used solely for our internal analytics purposes
GA4 collects standard analytics data (pages visited, session duration, device type) but this data is not disclosed to third parties for advertising purposes.
How to Opt Out
You have multiple ways to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information:
1. Cookie Consent Preferences (Primary Method)
Use our cookie consent banner or preferences center to decline advertising cookies. This prevents Meta and TikTok pixels from loading and collecting your data.
- Look for our cookie banner when you first visit the site
- Click “Reject” or “Manage Preferences” to decline advertising cookies
- You can change your preferences at any time through the cookie settings link in our website footer
2. Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, we will automatically treat this as a request to opt out of the sale/sharing of your personal information.
How to enable GPC:
- Many browsers support GPC natively or through extensions
- Visit globalprivacycontrol.org for setup instructions
3. Direct Request via Email
You may submit an opt-out request directly by emailing us at:
Include “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” in the subject line.
4. Platform-Specific Opt-Outs
You can also opt out directly through the advertising platforms:
Meta (Facebook/Instagram):
- Visit Facebook Ad Preferences
- Under “Ad Settings,” choose to limit data use for advertising
- You can also opt out of off-Facebook activity tracking
TikTok:
- Visit your TikTok Privacy Settings
- Manage your ad personalization preferences
- Opt out of personalized ads based on off-TikTok activity
What Happens After You Opt Out
What Changes
Once you opt out:
- Meta Pixel will not load on our website for your browser
- TikTok Pixel will not load on our website for your browser
- Your browsing activity on our site will not be shared with these advertising platforms
- You will not be added to retargeting audiences based on your visit to our site
What Does NOT Change
Opting out does not mean you will stop seeing ads. It means:
- You may still see ads from StarUp on Meta or TikTok platforms
- These ads will not be personalized based on your activity on our website
- You may see less relevant ads overall
- Google Analytics will continue to operate as it does not constitute a sale
Other Limitations
- Your opt-out applies only to this device and browser
- If you clear your cookies, you may need to opt out again
- Opt-out does not affect data already collected before your request
- We cannot control how Meta or TikTok use data they collected before your opt-out
Verification Process
To process your opt-out request submitted via email, we may need to verify your identity. For opt-out requests specifically, we use a streamlined verification process:
For browser-based opt-outs (cookie preferences, GPC):
- No verification required - opt-out takes effect immediately
For email requests:
- We may ask you to confirm your request from the same email address
- We do not require extensive personal information to process opt-out requests
- We aim to minimize the information needed while ensuring the request is genuine
We will never ask for sensitive personal information (Social Security number, financial accounts, etc.) to verify an opt-out request.
Response Timeline
We will respond to your opt-out request as follows:
| Request Type | Response Time |
|---|---|
| Cookie preferences / GPC signal | Immediate - takes effect on your next page load |
| Email request acknowledgment | Within 10 business days |
| Email request completion | Within 45 calendar days |
If we need additional time due to complexity, we may extend the response period by an additional 45 days (90 days total) and will notify you of the extension and reason.
Non-Discrimination Notice
StarUp will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights. If you opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, you will:
- Not be denied access to our services
- Not be charged different prices or rates
- Not receive a different level or quality of service
- Not be penalized in any way
You have the right to opt out without fear of retaliation or discrimination.
